About Claypool Gold
Claypool Gold is one of the many projects from the endlessly prolific mind of Les Claypool. You probably know him from Primus, or maybe from The Claypool Lennon Delirium, or maybe from Les Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. The man cannot stop making music and every project sounds completely different while still being unmistakably Claypool. His bass playing is in a category of its own — slapping, tapping, strumming, doing things to a bass guitar that nobody else would even think to attempt. Claypool Gold brings together another configuration of musicians to explore whatever sonic territory Claypool feels like wandering into. If you’ve seen any of his projects live, you know the deal: expect the unexpected, bring an open mind, and prepare to have your face melted.
The Venue
SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center) is basically the best outdoor venue in the state and I will fight anyone who disagrees. Sitting in Saratoga Spa State Park surrounded by pine trees, the amphitheater has this magic quality where the music just floats through the air on summer evenings. The lawn is legendary — generations of Upstate music fans have their SPAC lawn stories. For a Claypool show where the crowd is going to be vibing hard, the lawn at SPAC is absolutely the move.
