Completely Unchained: A Van Halen Tribute at Frog Alley Brewing | May 2, 2026

Van Halen’s catalog presents a specific challenge for tribute musicians: how do you recreate Eddie Van Halen’s guitar work without reducing one of the most original players in rock history to a series of technical tricks? Completely Unchained answers the question by focusing on the total band experience rather than just the guitar — and the result, by nearly universal account, is one of the more satisfying Van Halen tribute experiences on the circuit. They bring that show to Frog Alley Brewing in Schenectady on May 2nd.

Completely Unchained has been called the “#1 Van Halen tribute in the country” by venues and audiences who have seen the spectrum of acts working the catalog. Frontman Gene Hendrikson channels David Lee Roth’s exuberant showmanship while guitarist Jake Miller tackles Eddie’s tapping runs, wide-interval arpeggios, and the rhythmic crunch that defined the band’s sound. Clint Ettore on bass and Tim DiDuro on drums provide the engine that kept the original together through decades of stadium touring.

The setlist naturally covers both eras — the Roth years (“Runnin’ with the Devil,” “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love,” “Panama,” “Jump,” “Hot for Teacher”) and the Hagar period for audiences who came to the band later. The common thread is that Van Halen’s music was never not fun, and Completely Unchained understands that entertainment, not reverence, is the correct mode.

Frog Alley Brewing provides a casual, welcoming environment for a show built around joy. Tickets are available through Universe. No assigned seating.
