Two of the most communal traditions in American music — the Grateful Dead’s psychedelic sprawl and the deep pulse of reggae-dub — have more in common than most people realize. Both demand patience. Both reward surrender. And on Friday, April 24, Grateful Dub is coming to Putnam Place to prove that point in the best possible way. Doors at 7:30 PM, music at 8:30 PM.
About Grateful Dub
Grateful Dub is the project that makes Dead songs feel like they were always supposed to have bass you feel in your chest. Performed by the band Roots of Creation — veterans of the reggae-jam crossover world — the project pulls in rotating guest musicians from the broader jam scene to keep things loose and alive. This isn’t a note-for-note Dead tribute and it isn’t a reggae cover band. It’s a genuine reimagining, the kind where “Scarlet Begonias” opens up into a dub spiral you didn’t see coming and somehow it all makes perfect sense.
Roots of Creation has built a devoted following by living in exactly this space — where Deadheads and reggae heads overlap — and their show at Putnam Place should draw both camps out in force. Expect a warm room, good vibes, and a setlist that rewards familiarity without requiring it.
Venue Info
Putnam Place is Saratoga’s rock club, and it fits this show like a glove. The room is compact and multi-level, the kind of space where the bass frequencies wrap around you rather than just hit you. It’s a late-night venue by nature — situated right in the heart of Saratoga Springs, it draws a crowd that knows how to settle in for the long haul. For a show built around groove and community, there’s no better room in the city. See the full venue guide for Putnam Place.
