Leonid & Friends is a Moscow-based ensemble that performs the music of Chicago — the band, not the city — with a precision and affection that has earned them a following that includes many of Chicago’s original members. Their YouTube videos went viral years ago among fans who couldn’t believe a Russian jazz ensemble was covering “25 or 6 to 4” with such uncanny accuracy, and the live touring act has proven the recordings were not a studio trick.
About the Performance
The ensemble is large — brass section, rhythm section, vocalists — and they play Chicago’s brass-driven jazz-rock with the kind of detail-oriented commitment that the original band itself couldn’t always sustain live. Songs like “Saturday in the Park,” “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day,” and “Make Me Smile” are in the setlist. The Egg’s main hall is appropriately sized for a large ensemble show — the brass will fill the room properly.
About The Egg
The Egg is located at Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany, with Plaza parking available in the adjacent garages. The venue’s acoustics work well for brass-heavy ensembles — clean without being sterile.
