Live Dead & Brothers at Westcott Theater | June 28, 2026

By Nate Calloway · March 30, 2026

The family trees of the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band have been intertwined for half a century — two Southern-rooted, jam-driven bands whose legacies shaped American rock music in ways that are still unfolding. Live Dead & Brothers, an all-star ensemble drawn from both musical families, comes to the Westcott Theater in Syracuse on June 28, 2026, to celebrate the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary.

This is not a tribute act. Live Dead & Brothers features musicians with direct bloodline connections to both bands — artists who carry these catalogs in their DNA, not just their setlists. The project honors the shared musical language between the Dead and the Allmans: the long improvisation, the deep blues roots, the sense that a song is a living thing that changes every time it’s played.

The 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead is no small milestone. Sixty years since Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and their compatriots began reshaping what a rock band could be — how long a song could stretch, how deeply a community could form around music, how much freedom a stage could hold. To mark that anniversary with musicians who carry the legacy forward by birth and by craft feels right.

The Westcott Theater, Syracuse’s beloved mid-size venue, is the kind of room where this music breathes. Intimate enough to feel the connection, loose enough to let the jams unfold. Central New York’s jam community will want to be in the building for this one.
