Pentagram at Montage Music Hall | May 26, 2026

By Rachel Torrey · April 8, 2026

Pentagram has been making doom metal since before doom metal had a name. Bobby Liebling formed the band in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971 — predating Black Sabbath’s commercial breakthrough, working in a heavy-psych direction that wouldn’t find its proper audience for another decade. The band’s history is one of rock’s great survival stories: decades of lineup changes, personal battles, and near-misses before the cult recognition eventually became something more like genuine legacy.

Today, Pentagram is recognized as one of the foundational acts in doom and stoner metal, cited as an influence by bands across the heavy music spectrum. Liebling remains the band’s center — his vocals, which combine the menace of early Black Sabbath with an American psych-rock darkness, are as distinctive now as they were fifty years ago.

Montage Music Hall in Rochester is the right room for this: a mid-size metal-and-rock venue with a crowd that knows its history and an atmosphere that serves heavy music well. The bill will draw from Pentagram’s catalog across eras — Relentless, Be Forewarned, and the deeper catalog cuts that the serious fans travel for.

No time posted yet — check the Etix page for door time. The show is announced and on sale now. If you’ve never seen Pentagram live, the Montage Music Hall show is the right place to fix that.
