This one carries real weight for anyone who knows their bluegrass lineage. Peter Rowan spent the early 1960s playing alongside Bill Monroe in the Blue Grass Boys before going on to a career that spans bluegrass, country rock, and Americana. His most celebrated chapter was Old in the Way, the short-lived 1970s acoustic supergroup he formed with Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Vassar Clements, and John Kahn.
About the Performance
Sam Grisman is David Grisman’s son and a mandolinist in his own right. The Sam Grisman Project performs alongside Peter Rowan to revisit Old in the Way material and more — a chance to hear songs from that era played by musicians with genuine bloodline connections to the original. For Albany fans of acoustic music, traditional bluegrass, or the Grateful Dead universe, this is a meaningful show.
About The Egg
The Egg in downtown Albany holds around 982 seats in its main hall — intimate enough that acoustic bluegrass registers properly. The venue is inside the Empire State Plaza; parking in the Plaza garage is available and covers the block.
