Peter Rowan and the Sam Grisman Project are coming to The Egg in Albany on Friday, March 27, 2026 at 8:00 PM. Tickets start at $48 for an evening that connects two generations of American acoustic music in one of the Capital Region’s finest rooms.
About the Artists
Peter Rowan has been a towering figure in bluegrass and folk for over five decades. The man played alongside Bill Monroe in the Bluegrass Boys, co-founded Old & In the Way with Jerry Garcia and David Grisman, and has spent the decades since carving out a catalog that stretches from traditional bluegrass to Tex-Mex to whatever else catches his ear. His voice — that high, lonesome tenor — hasn’t lost a step.
The Sam Grisman Project carries on a family legacy. Sam is the son of mandolin legend David Grisman, and his band channels the “Dawg music” tradition with fresh energy. Pairing him with Rowan is a nod to the Old & In the Way lineage, and if you know that history, this show carries real weight. If you want to dig into the catalog beforehand, Peter Rowan’s discography on Amazon is a deep well worth exploring.
The Venue
The Egg is one of those venues that rewards acoustic music — the Swyer Theatre in particular has a warmth and clarity that makes folk and bluegrass sound the way it’s supposed to. The building itself, perched on the Empire State Plaza, is an architectural landmark. Parking in the Plaza garages is free after 5:00 PM on weekdays. Full Egg venue guide here.
