Here is the thing about the Bug Jar: it holds 120 people. Not a typo. When Profanatica — one of the foundational acts in American black metal — comes through Rochester on a Wednesday night, you are not watching from three sections back. You are standing in a 120-person room while they do their thing. That is the draw.
About Profanatica
Profanatica is one of the first black metal bands from the United States, founded by Paul Ledney, who handles drums and vocals. The band emerged from an early Incantation lineup, circulated demos through the tape-trading circuit in the late 1980s, and earned a deal with Osmose Productions before dissolving after that initial run. Ledney revived the project in 2006 through Hells Headbangers Records, kicking off a prolific stretch of releases and international touring across Europe and Latin America.
The 2026 summer run — Rochester is stop number two, right after Portland — is built around the Hells Headbangers reissue of Disgusting Blasphemies Against God (originally 2010) and the promotion of 2025’s Wreathed in Dead Angels. Ledney has said the band is “still 100% behind” the new record. Their most recent Season of Mist release, Crux Simplex (2023), worked through the stations of the cross across ten tracks. This is not a nostalgia lap. It is a 30-plus-city run through the underground.
Support comes from One Master, a Connecticut black metal act active since 2002 and signed to Eternal Death. They describe their music as “USBM in the old ways.” Fitting company for this bill.
About The Bug Jar
The Bug Jar is at 219 Monroe Ave in Rochester — a bar and music venue in the Monroe Avenue corridor. Capacity is 120. There is no real distance between you and the stage. For a Profanatica set, that is not a comfort zone — it is completely the point. Find more Rochester / Finger Lakes shows in our regional guide.
