Two of the greatest guitar virtuosos in rock history — Joe Satriani and Steve Vai — are sharing a stage as the SatchVai Band, and they’re bringing the tour to Palace Theatre in Albany. For anyone who cares about the electric guitar as an art form, this is as big as it gets.
About the SatchVai Band
Joe Satriani and Steve Vai are instrumental rock legends who have shaped the genre for four decades. Satriani, a 15-time Grammy nominee, is one of the best-selling instrumental rock guitarists of all time, known for his melodic phrasing and technical brilliance. Vai, a former student of Satriani’s, went on to forge his own legendary career with his wildly expressive playing style, earning multiple Grammy Awards and collaborating with everyone from Frank Zappa to David Lee Roth. The two have periodically reunited on stage over the years, and the SatchVai Band represents their most complete collaborative effort, combining both artists’ bands into a single powerhouse ensemble.

I’ve seen both Satriani and Vai individually more times than I can count, and every time they share a stage, the chemistry is electric. There’s a mutual respect and playful competitiveness between these two that makes for riveting watching. When they trade solos, you’re witnessing two masters of the instrument pushing each other to new heights. The Palace is going to be the perfect setting for it — intimate enough to feel the notes in your chest, grand enough to match the occasion. Guitar fans, this one is mandatory. If you care about the electric guitar as an instrument, this is a pilgrimage.
