On Friday, May 22, Buffalo Iron Works hosts both on a single bill — a grunge double tribute that covers Nirvana and Foo Fighters back to back in one of Buffalo’s best live rooms.
Two Bands, One Story
Seattle Sons tackles Nirvana, which means stepping into some of the most emotionally exposed rock music ever recorded. Kurt Cobain’s songs were built on contradiction — melody wrapped in distortion, vulnerability dressed in flannel — and a tribute that gets it right has to honor both sides of that equation. The quiet-loud architecture, the hooks buried under the noise, the sense that something real was at stake in every performance. These are not songs that forgive a casual approach.
Smells Like Dave Grohl picks up the thread from there. The Foo Fighters story is, in its own way, one of rock’s most improbable second acts — a drummer walking out of the wreckage of the most important band of a generation and building something that would eventually fill stadiums on its own terms.
