Rock | Capital Region
Three bands. No filler. Shinedown is bringing the Dance, Kid, Dance Act II tour to Albany’s MVP Arena on July 18, and the supporting bill — Coheed and Cambria and From Ashes to New — makes this one of the strongest rock packages coming through the Capital Region this summer.
Shinedown has been one of the most consistent arena-level rock acts of the past two decades. Brent Smith’s vocal range remains the band’s signature weapon, and the live show has evolved into a high-energy production that earns the arena setting. They have played MVP Arena before, and the Albany crowd has always shown up for them.
About the Show
Coheed and Cambria in the support slot is the real bonus here. Claudio Sanchez’s sci-fi progressive rock opus has one of the most devoted fanbases in rock, and seeing them in an arena context — with the production to match — hits different than a club set. If you are coming for Shinedown but have never seen Coheed live, do yourself a favor and show up early.
From Ashes to New opens the night with the kind of hard rock energy that warms up a room properly. Three bands, three distinct flavors of rock, and a full evening of music.
Venue Info
MVP Arena in downtown Albany holds roughly 17,500 for concerts and sits right in the middle of the Capital Region’s entertainment district. The arena — formerly the Times Union Center and the Pepsi Arena before that — is walkable from dozens of restaurants and bars on Pearl Street and North Pearl Street.
Sound quality at MVP Arena varies by section. The floor and lower bowl deliver the best experience. The upper bowl can feel distant for some shows, but Shinedown’s production typically fills the room well. Parking is available in nearby garages and surface lots, with paid options within a few blocks in every direction.
