Suffs makes its Rochester stop at the Auditorium Theatre in June 2026. The Tony Award-winning musical about the American women’s suffrage movement — written by Shaina Taub — arrives on national tour with its full Broadway production intact, and it’s one of the better original musicals the genre has produced in recent years.
About Suffs
Shaina Taub’s Suffs developed at the Public Theater before opening on Broadway in 2024, where it won the Tony for Best Book and earned additional nominations. The show covers the women’s suffrage movement from 1913 through the ratification of the 19th Amendment, focusing on the tensions between different factions of the movement and the complicated women who led it. The score is eclectic — folk, pop, and show tunes in a blend that feels contemporary without being anachronistic — and the book doesn’t flatten its historical figures into simple heroes. Rochester’s connection to the suffrage movement (Susan B. Anthony’s home is a National Historic Landmark here) gives this particular production date an extra layer of resonance.
