Tom Papa at Universal Preservation Hall | July 17, 2026

By David Chen-Watkins · April 9, 2026

Universal Preservation Hall sits in downtown Saratoga Springs, the kind of room where a comedian either earns the crowd fast or feels every second of the silence. Tom Papa has been working rooms like this for more than 30 years. He brings his Grateful Bread Tour to UPH on Friday, July 17 at 8 p.m. Get there early.

About Tom Papa

Papa’s stand-up has sharpened with time, which is not always how the form works. His latest Netflix special, Home Free (2024), takes on what happens after the kids leave — the strange quiet of it, the new absurdities that rush in to fill the space. Six specials into a career spanning more than three decades, he is still finding new angles.

The Grateful Bread Tour takes its name from his weekly podcast Breaking Bread with Tom Papa, where he and his guests eat, drink, and follow conversations wherever they lead. Beyond stand-up, Papa has appeared in films alongside Matt Damon and Robert De Niro, starred in HBO’s Emmy-winning Behind the Candelabra, and hosted NBC’s The Marriage Ref. The guy has range — and somehow makes all of it feel like it belongs to the same person.

The Venue

Universal Preservation Hall sits at 25 Washington St in the heart of Saratoga Springs, one of the standout performance rooms in the Capital Region. The intimate setting brings you close to the stage — close enough that nothing gets filtered or lost. It holds atmosphere the way good rooms do: you feel it the moment you walk in, before the show even starts.

A note on timing: Saratoga in July is busy. Plan your evening with a little cushion, especially if you are coming in for dinner first. VIP experiences are available for this show.
