TRUTH aren’t here to hype you up. They’re here to move you. The New Zealand dubstep duo — Andre Fernandez and Tristan Roake — built their reputation on restraint and weight: dense, rolling basslines, dark atmospherics, and sets that feel less like entertainment and more like an experience your body remembers the next morning. On Friday, April 10, they bring the Deep Dark & Dangerous sound to Photo City Music Hall in Rochester. Doors at 7 PM, 18+.
The Sound
TRUTH operate in the corner of electronic music that doesn’t chase trends. Since forming in Christchurch in the early 2010s and launching their Deep Dark & Dangerous label in 2014, they’ve defined a lane — heavy, immersive dubstep with an emotional intelligence that separates them from the genre’s more bombastic wing. They’ve been recognized with the New Zealand Music Award for Best Electronic Artist, and their music has turned up in productions like American Horror Story, a measure of how far the DDD sound has traveled from underground basements to mainstream ears without losing its edge.
Their international touring circuit has taken them through Shambhala, Outlook Festival, and Infrasound — events that attract serious bass music devotees, not casual observers. The Rochester show follows that same current. This isn’t a floor-filling EDM event. It’s a gathering of people who care about what’s in the speakers.
The Show
The bill is stacked with support from Athena, WooK (isded x SuS), Thromb, McThuggin — a lineup that signals the underground bass community in Western New York is showing up in force. Photo City Music Hall’s low ceilings and dedicated sound system make it one of the better rooms in the region for this kind of show. The sound translates, and the crowd that fills it for bass music shows knows what it’s there for.
Tickets are available at Eventbrite. Doors open at 7 PM. This is an 18+ event.
