Dave Van Ronk — the "Mayor of MacDougal Street" — played Caffe Lena in 1961, the year the legendary coffeehouse opened. Van Ronk was a mentor to Bob Dylan and a titan of the Greenwich Village folk scene. His early appearances at Caffe Lena helped establish it as a folk music institution.
