Your Guide to Live Music in Upstate New York

North Country Concerts & Live Music

Mountain towns, lakeside stages, and Adirondack atmosphere

The Sound of the North Country

The North Country is New York’s wildest, most expansive region — encompassing the Adirondack Park, the Thousand Islands, and the St. Lawrence Valley. The concert scene here is intimate by nature: small theaters, outdoor festivals, and community stages set against some of the most stunning landscapes in the Northeast.

Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, and Plattsburgh anchor the music calendar in the Adirondacks, while Watertown and the Thousand Islands region bring their own energy. Summer is the peak season, when the population swells with visitors and the outdoor stages come alive.

This isn’t a region you visit for arena shows. You come here for the experience — live music under the stars with the Adirondack High Peaks on the horizon, a cold local craft beer in hand, and the kind of intimate setting that makes every show feel personal.

Exploring the North Country

Before & After the Show

Lake Placid’s Main Street is a destination in itself — restaurants, breweries, and shops in a classic mountain town setting. Saranac Lake has a growing food scene centered on Broadway. Plattsburgh’s downtown has been revitalizing with new restaurants and craft beverage spots along the Lake Champlain waterfront.

Getting Around

I-87 (Northway) is the main route from Albany to the Adirondacks and Plattsburgh. Route 3 connects Watertown to the Adirondack interior. Distances are real up here — Lake Placid to Watertown is nearly 2 hours. No public transit outside Plattsburgh; you need a car.

Best Time to Visit

Summer (June–September) is prime season. Most outdoor venues and festivals only operate during this window. Fall foliage in the Adirondacks (late September–mid October) is legendary and often coincides with end-of-season shows. Winter is quiet for concerts but spectacular for skiing.
