Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass at Kodak Center | May 12, 2026

By David Chen-Watkins · March 18, 2026

The concept was deceptively simple: a Los Angeles trumpet player with a taste for Mexican brass traditions would make a record in 1965 that defined what sophisticated pop could be. More than sixty years later, Herb Alpert is touring with the Tijuana Brass again — for the first time in over three decades — and the music holds up because it was never simple at all.

Alpert brings Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass & Other Delights to Kodak Center on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Surrounding dates on this tour leg — Providence, Portland, Montreal, and Toronto — are already flagged “Going Quickly” on the official tour page. Rochester’s availability remains open.

About Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass

The genre Alpert built — he calls it “Ameriachi,” a blend of mariachi tradition, jazz sensibility, and rock energy — produced one of the more remarkable chart achievements of the 1960s. In 1966, he simultaneously held four albums in the Top 10 and five in the Top 20, outselling The Beatles that year. Whipped Cream & Other Delights was the No. 1 album of 1966.

Alpert has spoken about the unintentional nature of it. “I never went in with the thought of making an iconic album that people would still be listening to in 2025,” he told Best Classic Bands. “I approached the making of this album as I do every single time that I record, which is to find great songs that touch me.”

The record turned 60 last year. A 60th anniversary vinyl picture disc on 180-gram remastered vinyl was released April 25, 2025, for those inclined to revisit the source material before the show.

At 91, Alpert’s credentials span music, business, and civic recognition: eight Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, a Tony Award, the National Medal of Arts (presented by President Obama in 2012), and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. He co-founded A&M Records with Jerry Moss. This tour follows 39 consecutive sold-out concerts in 2025. The demand has not cooled.
