Live Dead & Brothers at Penn’s Peak | May 1, 2026

By Nate Calloway · April 8, 2026

Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe, PA is one of those venue destinations worth penciling in before you even look at who is playing. But when the lineup is Live Dead & Brothers on a Friday night — touring behind a show designed to recreate the legendary co-billed Dead and Allman Brothers sets from 1969 to 1973 — the decision gets a lot easier.

About Live Dead & Brothers

The Spring Trippin 2026 tour hits Penn’s Peak on May 1, and the roster is something worth paying attention to. Tom Constanten, the original Grateful Dead pianist from 1968 to 1970, is on keys alongside Scott Guberman of Phil Lesh & Friends. Mark Karan — a veteran of The Other Ones and Bob Weir’s RatDog — handles guitar alongside Les Dudek, who played on the Allman Brothers’ Brothers & Sisters. Berry Duane Oakley, son of Allman co-founder Berry Oakley and a member of the Allman Betts Band, is on bass. Pete Lavezzoli of Jazz Is Dead and Oteil & Friends drives the rhythm section, with Gabe Woodside on lead vocals.

This is not a standard tribute situation — these are people who were either in the original bands or deeply embedded in their extended families. The difference shows up in the improvisation.

The Spring Trippin run also incorporates Acid Test segments: live jams layered over 1965 Merry Prankster spoken word recordings as tribute to the Acid Tests that shaped the Dead’s earliest years. The tour marks the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary, and that context gives the whole night an extra charge.

Penn’s Peak

Penn’s Peak holds 1,800 and was built for shows like this — spacious dance floor, lofty ceilings, room to actually move when the music calls for it. Roadies, the full-service restaurant and bar on site, is worth getting there early for. Parking is ample and on-site, which matters when you are driving in from upstate. Jim Thorpe is a town worth an overnight if you want to make a real trip of it.
