About This Festival

Every summer, Hunter Park in Manchester, Vermont transforms into a four-day sanctuary for the Grateful Dead–obsessed, the jam-curious, and anyone who believes music sounds better when you’re camping next to strangers who become friends by Sunday. Dead of Summer Music Festival returns July 9–12 for its seventh year, and the 2026 edition is stacking the deck with 21 bands across two stages — a Dead-centric throwdown presented by WEQX and Whirlygig Music that’s become a pilgrimage for the tie-dye faithful across the Northeast.

The Lineup Goes Deep

God Street Wine — the ’90s New York jam institution — headlines alongside Leftover Salmon, who’ve been blending bluegrass and rock with gleeful abandon for over three decades. But the real magic of Dead of Summer’s booking lies in the tribute and hybrid acts that turn the Dead’s catalog into a living, breathing organism. Pink Talking Fish Are Dead Ensemble mashes up Phish, Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, and the Dead into a single brain-melting set. Steely Dead filters Jerry’s songbook through the jazz-funk precision of Steely Dan. Jerry’s Middle Finger, Splintered Sunlight, Dead Man’s Waltz, and Brown Eyed Women each bring their own angle on the canon.

Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad adds reggae-soaked grooves to the mix, Saints & Liars bring gritty Americana, and Creamery Station — a Vermont favorite — holds down the local contingent. Twenty-one bands is a lot for a four-day festival at this scale, and the two-stage layout means you’re never stuck choosing between two must-sees.

More Than Music

Dead of Summer leans into the full festival experience. Yoga sessions start the mornings. A disc golf course winds through the grounds. Over twenty vendors cover everything from food to handmade goods. The camping setup accommodates both tent and RV rigs, and the vibe is unapologetically communal — the kind of festival where your neighbors share their breakfast and nobody locks anything up.

Early bird tickets have already sold out, which tells you everything about the momentum this event has built since launching in 2020. Tier 2 pricing is active now, and if past years are any guide, the remaining tiers won’t linger.

The Case for the Drive

Manchester is a straight shot from Albany, and for Upstate New York’s massive jam community — the same crowd that fills SPAC for Dead & Company and turns Saratoga into a parking lot for Phish — Dead of Summer offers four days of immersion at a fraction of the arena price. The scale stays intimate, the booking stays focused, and the whole thing runs on genuine love for the music rather than corporate sponsorship math.

Seven years in, Dead of Summer has carved out its own lane: not trying to be the biggest, just trying to be the most fun. Based on the 2026 lineup and the sold-out early birds, that mission is firmly on track.
