It’s hard to overstate what June 11, 1978 means now. Bob Marley brought the Kaya Tour to Shea’s Theater in Buffalo — the old Buffalo movie palace with the gilt ceilings and the chandeliers — and played one of his last upstate New York shows ever. He’d been shot in Jamaica eighteen months earlier. The cancer that would kill him was already moving through his body, undiagnosed. He sang ‘Is This Love’ and ‘Easy Skanking’ and ‘No Woman, No Cry’ under those Beaux-Arts ceilings, and less than three years later he was gone, dead at 36.
