On October 21, 1987, Guns N’ Roses rolled into Albany’s Palace Theatre on a Wednesday night, a Northeast Concerts date with Japanese metal band EZO opening and general-admission tickets priced at $11.50. Barely three months after the release of Appetite for Destruction, the band tore through a set that included “It’s So Easy,” “Mr. Brownstone,” “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” “Welcome to the Jungle” and “Paradise City,” closing with Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin.” The Times Union later reported that only 187 people were there, in a theater with room for roughly 2,500 more. Thirty-nine years on, it may be the most-claimed and least-attended rock show in Capital Region history.
