On October 3, 1987, Pink Floyd brought the A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour to Syracuse’s Carrier Dome — the band’s first tour without Roger Waters, and proof that David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright could still fill a stadium on their own terms. The night opened with “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” worked through the new album in the first set, then turned the Dome over to “Time,” “Money” and “Comfortably Numb” before closing on “Run Like Hell,” all under the tour’s signature circular screen, lasers and a hospital bed that flew the length of the room during “On the Run.” A Ticketron seat in Section 119 cost $20, and U2 would play the same building just six days later. Thirty-nine years on, it stands as the night Syracuse saw Pink Floyd reinvent itself in real time.
