On October 8, 1966, Simon & Garfunkel headlined the RPI Field House in Troy, one stop on a fall run of weekend college dates that had taken them to Providence College’s Alumni Hall the night before. The duo was playing only to campus audiences at the time, and Art Garfunkel was still a student at Columbia University, according to Rensselaer’s Institute Archives. Their single “The Dangling Conversation” had been out since September, and Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme would reach stores just 16 days after the Troy show. Sixty years later, the night stands as a snapshot of the pair on the hinge between campus folk act and one of the defining voices of the decade.
