Heritage Financial Park

Wappingers Falls, NY

About This Venue

There’s a moment every summer at Heritage Financial Park when the sun drops behind the Hudson Highlands, the field lights wash the grass in gold, and a band kicks into its set with the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge framing the horizon. It’s not a stadium show in the traditional sense — it’s a ballpark that moonlights as one of the Hudson Valley’s most unexpected outdoor concert venues. And somehow, that’s exactly what makes it work.

From Dutchess Stadium to Heritage Financial Park

The park opened on June 18, 1994, as Dutchess Stadium — a 4,494-seat minor league baseball facility built along Route 9D in Wappingers Falls, just a couple of miles north of the walkable town of Beacon. For nearly three decades, it was home to various minor league affiliates before the Hudson Valley Renegades became the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees in 2021. The naming rights shifted in March 2023 when Heritage Financial Credit Union struck a deal, giving the venue its current name. But locals still call it Dutchess Stadium as often as not, and the Renegades remain the main draw from April through September.

The concert programming, though, has been building steadily. The park’s outdoor layout — with its open concourse, grass berms, and views of the surrounding hills — lends itself naturally to live music. K104’s annual KFest has been a fixture here for years, pulling headliners that have included Def Leppard, Bob Dylan, Counting Crows, Wilco, Drake, and Rihanna. Beyond the radio station festivals, the venue has hosted standalone shows and community events that take advantage of the 5,400-person capacity and the kind of open-air atmosphere that enclosed arenas simply cannot replicate.

The Outdoor Experience

Heritage Financial Park is not an amphitheater with tiered seating carved into a hillside. It’s a baseball stadium repurposed for music, and that distinction matters. The main seating bowl wraps behind home plate, offering elevated sightlines toward whatever stage configuration the promoter brings in. The outfield opens up for general admission standing and lawn seating, which is where the real energy lives during concerts. There’s a relaxed, festival-adjacent feel — coolers on the grass, kids running the warning track, couples staking out spots along the berm.

The concourse stays open during shows, and the concession stands serve standard ballpark fare — burgers, chicken tenders, beer, and soft-serve. It’s not trying to be a high-end concert experience, and it doesn’t need to be. The appeal is the setting itself: a compact venue in a scenic corridor of the Hudson Valley, close enough to New York City to pull regional acts but far enough upstate to feel like a genuine escape.

Sound quality varies depending on the production setup, as it does at most multi-use outdoor venues. But the intimate capacity — well under 6,000 — means you’re never far from the stage, and the natural bowl created by the seating structure does a decent job of containing sound. On a clear summer night, it’s hard to beat.

Getting There and Settling In

The park sits at 1500 Route 9D in Wappingers Falls, accessible from I-84 or Route 9. Parking is on-site and straightforward — a large lot surrounds the stadium, and traffic management has improved over the years as the venue has hosted larger events. Arrive early for bigger shows; the lots fill up, and the surrounding road is two lanes in each direction.

For dining before or after a show, the nearby town of Beacon (just two miles south on 9D) is the move. Meyer’s Olde Dutch serves burgers and hand-cut fries with an old-school charm that pairs perfectly with a concert night. Ziatun offers inventive Middle Eastern cuisine — vegan-friendly, beautifully plated, and worth the stop. And if you want something more upscale, Heritage Food and Drink on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls is a farm-to-table standout with craft cocktails and locally sourced menus that rotate with the seasons.

Insider Tips

Beacon’s Main Street is worth exploring before or after any event — it’s a three-quarter-mile stretch packed with galleries, coffee shops, bars, and boutiques. If you’re making a day of it, Dia:Beacon (one of the premier contemporary art museums in the Northeast) is right there. The combination of world-class art, a walkable small town, and a ballpark concert is a distinctly Hudson Valley kind of evening.

For craft beer fans, Sloop Brewing at the Factory in nearby Hopewell Junction is a 15-minute drive east and a solid pre-show stop. The taproom is spacious, the beer is excellent, and the vibe is laid-back.

One practical note: Heritage Financial Park is an outdoor venue with no cover. Check the weather, bring layers for after sundown (Hudson Valley evenings cool off fast, even in July), and wear shoes you don’t mind getting grass-stained. Lawn chairs are sometimes permitted depending on the event — check the specific show’s rules before you go.
