Kingston is one of those Hudson Valley drives that rewards you before you even get inside. UPAC — the Ulster Performing Arts Center on Broadway — is a 1,500-seat theater that feels built for exactly this kind of night. On Tuesday, October 20, Classical Arts Entertainment brings the United European Ballet Company’s Cinderella to that stage. If you have been looking for an excuse to head down the Thruway, this is a good one.
About the Show
This is not the production you half-remember from a childhood field trip. Classical Arts Entertainment’s Cinderella is set to Sergei Prokofiev’s score — not Tchaikovsky, not the Disney arrangement — and performed by an international ensemble that includes leading principal dancers from Ukraine. The staging uses hand-painted sets and costumes created by European designers, and the format is Broadway-style: big, theatrical, built to fill a proper house. Two acts, one intermission, about two hours and twenty minutes total.
The company is mid-tour when they hit Kingston — Hershey, Pennsylvania two nights before, Chicago three weeks after — which tends to mean a cast that is sharp and road-ready. The show is suitable for ages 2 and up, which makes it a genuinely useful option if you have kids who are ready for something real but are not sure yet where the concert calendar fits them.
