George Thorogood & The Destroyers at Penn’s Peak | May 3, 2026

By Tanya Reeves · April 25, 2026

Penn’s Peak sits in the mountains above Jim Thorpe — the kind of venue that earns its reputation one show at a time. And if you need proof of concept, consider this: George Thorogood keeps coming back. Sunday’s show at the 1,800-capacity room is his fourth time on that stage, which tells you something about the room, and something about the crowd that fills it.

Thorogood brings “The Baddest Show on Earth” tour to Penn’s Peak on Sunday, May 3 at 8:00 PM, with the Alastair Greene Band opening. The tour kicked off in 2024 as a 50th-anniversary run and shows no signs of slowing — he has 17 dates in May alone, and at 77 years old, his take on the tour’s end date says it better than any press release could: “We want to go out while we are still on top, until I can’t take it any further.”

The Wilmington, Delaware native built his reputation on blues and slide guitar, and with The Destroyers — Jeff Simon on drums, Bill Blough on bass, Jim Suhler on rhythm guitar, and Buddy Leach on saxophone and keyboards — the band has logged thousands of live performances across more than 50 years. They’ve opened for the Rolling Stones, shared a Live Aid stage with Bo Diddley and Albert Collins, and were inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2024. The catalog runs deep: “Bad to the Bone,” “I Drink Alone,” “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” “Move It On Over.” A live album, Baddest Show on Earth: Greatest Hits Live, drops June 12 via Craft Recordings — this show lands right in the middle of that story being told.

Penn’s Peak holds 1,800 people, and a name this big will fill it. Get your tickets early, and budget extra time for the drive into the mountains — Jim Thorpe is worth a full detour on its own, but save the town for before or after the show. This is one of the better reasons to make the trip into this part of the region.
