When Alan Doyle came through Kingston on the first leg of the Already Dancing Tour, the tickets ran dry before everyone who wanted in could get there. That sold-out night is part of why this one exists: an added show at the Kingston Grand Theatre, a second evening for the people who missed it and for those ready to come back.
About the Show
Doyle brings the Already Dancing Tour to Kingston’s Rosen Auditorium on Wednesday, March 17, 2027, with special guest Mary Frances. The occasion is Welcome Home, his fourth full-length solo album and twentieth overall recording — nine original songs produced by Marcus Paquin, who has worked with Arcade Fire and Stars, and co-written with Jimmy Rankin, Donovan Woods, and Oscar Isaac. A 14-time JUNO Award nominee, Doyle is also a published author and actor-producer with screen credits; the music, though, is where his reputation lives. By his own account, Welcome Home is a deliberate departure: the first record he describes as going “lower and slower,” exploring deeper vocal registers and tempos he hadn’t worked in before. For a founding member of Great Big Sea — the St. John’s folk-pop group whose recording career launched in the summer of 1993 — the instinct toward buoyancy runs deep. This record works alongside it and against it. Critics have described it as “an enjoyable, distinctively Canadian-Atlantic folk rock record,” one that leans on accordion and fiddle while navigating themes of relationships, aging, and the pull of home. The closing track, “All for a Song,” turns autobiographical, carried by piano. The tour takes its name from the Already Dancing EP, released February 20, 2026, which includes a cover of Spirit of the West’s 1986 track “The Crawl” recorded with Geoffrey Kelly — a gesture toward the tradition Doyle has always been drawing from. The setlist pulls from across three decades of material: “Old Songs! New Songs! Gonna be a Time!” is how Doyle puts it himself.
