BooJum w/s/g BLAHSUM at Funk ‘n Waffles | September 11, 2026

By Meg Andersen · September 9, 2026

BooJum describes their live show as something between Grateful Dead, Phish, and the Flaming Lips — and that framing barely captures what they actually bring to a stage. The Brooklyn ensemble blends jam, EDM, and funk with drama, dance, and performance art, staging shows that run to elaborate costumes, dancers, actors, props, and projections. On Friday, September 11, all of that arrives at Funk ‘n Waffles in Syracuse, with Post-Americana outfit BLAHSUM in support.

About the Show

BooJum is a theatrical jam band that formed in 2023 under the Loop Troupe umbrella, a Brooklyn production company that has staged hundreds of concerts, plays, musicals, and multimedia shows since 2016. The lineup: Chris Mackin and Josh Santiago on guitar and vocals, Sarah Elaz on bass and vocals, and Mike Coiro on drums, with lyrics by poet and translator Tom Mackin. The group’s origin traces to a Brooklyn Bowl performance called “Walrus in Wonderland,” which layered original Alice in Wonderland-inspired songs over a Beatles tribute jam framework. That show led directly to Electric Wonderland, a full psychedelic concert adaptation with more than 40 original songs — their flagship production, performed at Brooklyn Bowl and similar venues. Their most recent release, RITUAL (of the followers of zibylla), was recorded live at Brooklyn Bowl in March 2026. They also participate in Bushwick’s Dead, an NYC-based jam collective.

Supporting them is BLAHSUM, a Chinatown NYC-based act that describes their music as “Post-Americana,” pulling from rap, punk, folk, funk, psychedelia, and rock ‘n’ roll. They’re a duo with a live backing band, and they describe what they do as a synthesis of music, performance, and video art. Their 2026 live record, Post Americana I (Live), is out now. BLAHSUM has more than 23 documented past shows across the New York area, and they play the Onset Festival in Tolland, Massachusetts the following weekend, making this stop part of an active run.

Venue & Logistics

Funk ‘n Waffles at 307 S Clinton St in central New York is a bar, restaurant, and live music room. The room holds 200 people, and a BooJum set (the staging, the costuming, the projections) fills a space like this differently than a standard band bill does. This is an 18-plus event. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., with the show starting at 8:00 p.m.
