Diego Figueiredo has performed in more than 60 countries, and George Benson — someone who has spent a lifetime around guitarists — called him “one of the greatest guitarists I’ve seen in my whole life.” On a Tuesday evening in November, Figueiredo brings that reputation into a room that seats 110 people in Saratoga Springs.
About the Show
The Jazz at Caffè Lena monthly series returns November 10 with resident host and pianist Chuck Lamb bringing Figueiredo in as guest: two musicians whose combined résumés run to dozens of albums and 60-plus countries, now fitting into 110 seats on Phila Street.
Lamb has been the pianist for the Brubeck Brothers Quartet since 2002. Dave Brubeck said of him in 2011: “Chuck Lamb is an extremely creative, harmonically interesting, rhythmically exciting pianist and one of the best improvisers I’ve heard in recent times.” His 2026 release, After Hours on Phila Street, goes further: a set of original acoustic jazz-fusion compositions that draws its name from the very street Caffè Lena sits on. Lamb recorded it with collaborators including Joel Rosenblatt, Scott Petito, Joe Locke, and Mike Tucker; the album honors Joel Moss, co-founder of the Jazz at Caffè Lena series. The August release concert at Caffè Lena sold out.
Figueiredo, born in Franca, Brazil in 1980, blends jazz, bossa nova, classical technique, and the musical traditions of his native Brazil. He has won twice at the Montreux Jazz Festival, holds a GRAMMY nomination, and has released 28 albums — including Antarctica, which ranked in the top 25 most-played CDs at USA jazz radio stations in 2021. He has shared stages with Gilberto Gil, Stanley Jordan, and George Benson, among others. On performing live, Figueiredo says: “My goal when on stage or the studio is to create something spontaneous, and that’s what makes my concerts fun.”
