Collective Soul at Palace Theatre | October 20, 2026

By Marc Delacroix · July 7, 2026

There is something instructive about Collective Soul still drawing headline bookings at a room like the Palace Theatre more than thirty years after their breakthrough. The October 20 date at Albany’s 2,844-seat theater is not a nostalgia exercise — or not entirely. This is a working band, one that released a double album in 2024 and followed it with a new Record Store Day release earlier this year. The machinery is still running.

About Collective Soul

Ed Roland assembled musicians in a Stockbridge, Georgia basement in 1992 with the explicit intention of selling demo tracks to a publishing company and walking away. That plan dissolved when an Atlanta college radio station got hold of “Shine” and put it into heavy rotation — it became the station’s most-requested track. By the time the label version appeared on Hints, Allegations & Things Left Unsaid in 1994, the band was sharing stages with Aerosmith and performing at Woodstock. Their name came from a line in Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead.

Seven #1 singles and over 15 million albums sold followed. Six of those releases earned Gold or Platinum certification. The current lineup — Ed Roland alongside his brother Dean Roland on rhythm guitar, Will Turpin on bass, Jesse Triplett on lead guitar, and Johnny Rabb on drums — has logged enough road time together to be a genuinely refined live unit.

The fall 2026 tour arrives in the wake of two recent album projects: Here to Eternity (May 2024), the band’s first-ever double album recorded at Elvis Presley’s Palm Springs estate across twenty tracks, and Touch and Go (April 2026), a Record Store Day release pressed on 180-gram colored vinyl that draws its sonic cues from The Cars and New Wave. The distance from ’90s mainstream rock to New Wave territory is not a short one. A documentary, Give Me a Word: The Collective Soul Story, premiered in July 2025 for those who want the longer arc.

About the Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre at 19 Clinton Avenue in downtown Albany is the Capital District’s most storied mid-size venue — 2,844 seats and a configuration that suits a band like Collective Soul well. It occupies the productive middle ground between club and arena: large enough to feel like an event, intimate enough that the performance still has to hold the room. Collective Soul are a band that knows the difference.
