Jefferson Starship is coming to Tioga Downs Casino Resort on Thursday, August 20 — and this is one of those shows that earns the drive on two levels at once.
Tickets are $20, and every dollar goes directly to the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group. Tioga Downs owner Jeff Gural and his wife Paula are personally matching all ticket revenues on top of that, effectively doubling the contribution. “We’re honored to host an iconic group like Jefferson Starship while supporting the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group,” Gural said. That is a hard deal to pass up.
The band arrives on the Runaway Again Tour — a full 50th anniversary run for a group that grew out of Jefferson Airplane in the early 1970s, founded by Paul Kantner. The catalog runs deep: three platinum records, eight gold records, and a string of Top 40 Billboard singles across 50 years, all 50 states, and five continents. The current lineup is led by co-founder David Freiberg on vocals and guitar, with Cathy Richardson on co-lead vocals, Donny Baldwin on drums, Chris Smith on keyboards, and Jude Gold on guitar. Their most recent studio release, Mother of the Sun (2020), includes material co-written with original Jefferson Airplane vocalist Grace Slick.
Live, the set pulls from a catalog built across generations of classic rock — this is not a nostalgia act going through the motions. It is a working band that has played this music enough to know how to make a room feel it.
About the Venue
Tioga Downs Casino Resort is a 500-capacity venue on the Susquehanna River in Nichols, tucked into the Southern Tier near the Pennsylvania border. At that size, a legacy act like Jefferson Starship fills the room in a way that makes the night feel closer and more specific than a shed show. If you are coming from Binghamton, you are roughly 20 miles west on Route 17.
