Flagman set out in 2015 declaring their intention to produce “the crispiest, most deep-fried alternative metal the world had ever seen” — a line that functions equally as joke and as pitch, and holds up as description either way. Founding bassist and vocalist Sam Stewart has since relocated from Florida to the Pacific Northwest and rebuilt the band around him; the fall 2026 tour finds them deep into a 14-date sweep through the South, Midwest, and Northeast, arriving at Rochester’s Bug Jar on Monday, Nov. 2 with Detroit’s Sumpp opening.
About the Show
The reference points tell you exactly where Flagman lives: Primus, Mr. Bungle, and System of a Down’s weight, with listeners landing near Ministry meets Primus — bass-heavy alternative metal laced with dystopian spoken word and vocals that shift between spoken delivery and harsh without announcement. Their Bandcamp page tags the sound across alternative metal, avant-garde metal, and nu-metal; their Songkick peer group clusters them beside Melt-Banana, Pig Destroyer, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and the Melvins. The PRP called them “an eccentric alternative metal outfit,” which is accurate but understates the craft required to make this particular amalgam cohere in a live room.
The band has logged over 200 documented shows, with a touring history that includes runs alongside Battles, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and Hed PE, plus a supporting slot for Polkadot Cadaver last June. The Rochester date is the 10th stop on a 14-date run that began Oct. 23 in Orlando and sweeps east through Pittsburgh and Troy before finishing in New Hope, Pa. on Nov. 6. The tour supports Before The Blast, the band’s October 2025 album, mixed by Ben McLeod and mastered by Mikey Allred, with the CD edition shipping since September. Sumpp, from Detroit, opens this stretch of Northeast dates; their 26-track Songs in the Key of Sumpp arrived in August 2024, built around absurdist, conversational song titles.
