Grand Evolution: The Best of Styx & Journey – Live! at Kingston Grand Theatre | October 10, 2026

By Marc Delacroix · July 24, 2026

The catalogs of Styx and Journey have aged better than their moment suggests they should. These were bands built for stadiums and FM radio, overproduced and maximalist, engineered for the back of a room that holds twenty thousand people. Their songs hold up precisely because of those qualities, not despite them. Grand Evolution, a five-piece tribute ensemble dedicated to both bands, has spent the past year making that case in professional theatres across Ontario. They bring the same program to Kingston Grand Theatre’s Rosen Auditorium on Saturday, October 10.

About the Show

Grand Evolution describes itself in booking materials as five “world-class, journeymen musicians brought together by their admiration for the legendary sounds” of Styx and Journey, two of the biggest, multi-platinum selling acts of commercial rock’s peak arena era. The group performs with period-authentic costuming and costume changes throughout a set that runs approximately two hours, with note-for-note replication as their stated standard. For a catalog where the key changes, layered harmonies, and specific guitar work are inseparable from why the songs resonated, that approach fits.

The Ontario theatre circuit has validated the act steadily. Prior dates in Cobourg, Niagara Falls, North Bay, Oshawa, and Belleville have drawn positive responses; attendees at earlier performances noted the ensemble “did not disappoint.” The Kingston show carries a charitable element: Partners in Mission Foodbank will collect non-perishable food donations at the door to benefit their local food hamper program for Kingston-area families.

The Journey portion of the evening covers “Separate Ways,” “Faithfully,” “Open Arms,” “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’,” “Stone in Love,” “Anyways You Want It,” and “Girl Can’t Help It,” among others. Styx’s side includes “Come Sail Away,” “Renegade,” “Blue Collar Man,” “Grand Illusion,” “Lady,” “Babe,” “Light Up,” “Too Much Time On My Hands,” and “Suite Madame Blue.” Between the two catalogs, that is the agreed-upon best of both bands: the songs that made each of them inescapable across a full decade of commercial radio.

Venue & Logistics

Kingston Grand Theatre’s Rosen Auditorium is at 218 Princess Street in Kingston, Ontario, a 776-capacity theater serving the North Country region. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. It is a room where the precision this act promises will be tested: these arrangements were built for larger halls, but a theater this size brings the harmonies close enough to leave no room for approximation.
