Night Zero (members of Dopapod, Twiddle, Kung Fu, and Dwight & Nicole) calls itself “the pre-party that becomes the main event,” and after building momentum across the northeast, the claim has largely stuck. The group returns to Lark Hall in Albany on Friday, October 30 for a night of rock, funk, jazz, and deep improvisation.
About the Show
The four members of Night Zero arrive with résumés that carry weight in jam circles. Rob Compa, known for his mind-bending guitar work and precision improvisation with Dopapod and Neighbor, leads on guitar. Zdenek Gubb, whose unmistakable bass tone and groove drive the low end, comes from Twiddle. Drummer Adrian Tramontano, a veteran of Kung Fu and Twiddle, brings what the band’s bio calls “jaw-dropping chops and relentless energy.” Leon Campos, from Dwight & Nicole, supplies soulful keys that the band says add “depth and color to every note.”
What Night Zero leans into is chemistry. The band’s own framing: the four musicians “push each other, unlocking something new every time they play — the kind of chemistry you can’t plan, only discover.” With this personnel, that’s a credible pitch.
The October 30 date comes off a busy stretch. Night Zero played the Adirondack Independence Music Festival in Lake George on September 5, and the night before this Albany stop they play Portland House of Music in Maine. The Eventbrite listing bills this as a return: “Night Zero are back at Lark Hall” — meaning there’s already a crowd here that knows what to expect from this band in this room.
Bolton Valley Resort, which hosted Night Zero in August 2025, put it plainly: “a prog-funk powerhouse” that was “hotter than a 2 dollar pistol.” Regional word-of-mouth on touring jam acts tends to be honest, and this one has held.
Venue & Logistics
Lark Hall at 351 Hudson Ave holds 300 standing, and for a band whose appeal is built on close-range improvisation, that scale works in the audience’s favor. A tight room amplifies what makes this kind of music worth seeing live: the back-and-forth between Compa and Gubb, the way Tramontano’s drumming responds in real time, the moments where Campos’s keys shift the whole color of the set. The venue describes its mission as “bringing music and community to the Village in the City.” Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8 p.m. Ages 18 and up.
