Squeaky Feet makes records with the precision of a composed prog-rock group and plays live like something else entirely. Guitarist and vocalist Colin Shore has said it plainly: the Denver quintet doesn’t sound like a jam band in the studio, but “turn into a different band when we improvise.” On Tuesday, November 3, they bring that unpredictable live version of themselves to Photo City Music Hall in Rochester.
About the Show
The band arrives touring behind Overview Effect, their second album, released October 31, 2025. The title borrows from the astronauts’ term for the perspective shift that occurs when you see Earth from space. Bassist Jimmy Finnegan describes the record as more “calculated” and cohesive than its predecessor, with songs that feel “connected to the last.” Their 2023 debut, Cause for Alarm, set a high bar: it earned Eclipse Magazine’s Album of the Month recognition in 2024 and featured guitarist Mark Lettieri on the lead single “Tunnel Vision.” Overview Effect builds on that with more vocal arrangements and lyrics that address, in Shore’s framing, the experience of going through difficult times and how that reshapes perspective. European prog publications have called it “energetically charged, intelligently composed, emotionally touching.”
What that description doesn’t quite capture is the live show. Squeaky Feet’s performances build from that composed foundation into something looser and harder to pin down: improvisation layered with trance music elements, electronic drum programming, and effects-heavy guitar that routinely lands in psychedelic territory. Press has described their sets as “a psychedelic dance party,” and their acknowledged influences span King Crimson, Weather Report, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, Rush, Phish, Umphrey’s McGee, and Dopapod.
The five-piece — Colin Shore (guitar/vocals), Greg King (guitar), Jimmy Finnegan (bass/vocals), Brian Keller (keyboards/sax/flute/vocals), and Kevin D’Angelo (drums) — connected through Berklee College of Music, where Shore and D’Angelo met during their first week of classes. The band solidified its current lineup around 2021 and has been building a national touring presence since. This fall 2026 run stretches from Massachusetts and Pennsylvania through Indiana, Tennessee, and Missouri before landing in Rochester.
