In August 2023, Andrew Dice Clay walked onstage at MetLife Stadium between sets by Chrissie Hynde and Guns N’ Roses. If that sentence surprises you, you have missed the second act. He brings his stand-up to West Herr Auditorium Theatre in Rochester on Thursday, October 22 — the middle night of a three-date upstate New York sweep.
About the Show
Clay built his name in the late 1980s through a run of sold-out arenas and a debut album that shipped with a sticker reading “Warning: This album is offensive.” He famously sold out Madison Square Garden two consecutive nights in 1990, the kind of run that generated a full-on cultural moment his fan base called Dicemania. MTV banned him for life, a ban that was later lifted. He released multiple gold and platinum albums, including work produced by Rick Rubin, along with HBO and Showtime specials.
The comeback has been methodical. A stretch of film and television work brought him back into mainstream visibility: Entourage (2011), Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine (2013), Martin Scorsese’s Vinyl (2016), A Star Is Born (2018) alongside Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, and Hulu’s Pam & Tommy (2022). He starred in a semi-autobiographical Showtime series, Dice, from 2016 to 2017. He published his autobiography, The Filthy Truth, in 2014. More recently, “on the street” videos on Instagram and TikTok have introduced him to a generation that missed the original Dicemania run, and he recently wrapped filming on Eddie Murphy’s heist comedy The Pickup. Current tour dates are receiving rave reviews.
This is the middle stop of a three-date upstate New York run. Clay plays the Oncenter Crouse Hinds Theater in Syracuse on October 21 and Shea’s Buffalo Theatre on October 23. No support act is listed. The show is presented by Magic City Productions. Parental discretion is advised.
