Andrew Dice Clay headlined Carnegie Hall in 2024. That booking tells you something about a career that refused to peak and stay there. On Friday, October 23, Dice brings his stand-up to Shea’s Buffalo Theatre at 7:30 p.m., closing out a three-night New York theater run that started in Syracuse and rolled through Rochester first.
About the Show
Clay describes himself as “a rock and roll comedy legend and proud to be one of America’s most outrageous comics,” a line that would read as self-parody if the résumé didn’t back it up. He was the first comedian to sell out Madison Square Garden on consecutive nights, in 1990, at the height of “Dicemania,” the cultural phenomenon his act unleashed. His gold and platinum comedy albums, including The Day the Laughter Died and Face Down, Ass Up — both produced by Rick Rubin — came with parental advisory warnings baked in. He also holds the distinction of being the only performer ever banned for life from MTV, a ban that has since been lifted.
The résumé beyond stand-up runs deep. A recurring role on Entourage. A turn in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine with Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin. An appearance in A Star Is Born alongside Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. A two-season Showtime series, also titled Dice. An upcoming role in Eddie Murphy’s heist comedy The Pickup, with Pete Davidson and Keke Palmer. His 2014 autobiography The Filthy Truth, published by Simon & Schuster, covered the arc from rise to fall to resurgence — and the Carnegie Hall booking suggests the resurgence is still running. He has since built a new following through social media on Instagram and TikTok. The Buffalo show is the third stop on the New York leg: Syracuse on the 21st, Rochester on the 22nd, Shea’s on the 23rd to close it out. No support act is listed for the Buffalo date.
