Renée Elise Goldsberry built her career bringing other people’s work to life: Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton, Mimi in Rent, Nettie in The Color Purple. She did it brilliantly enough to earn a Tony and a Grammy. Her October 20 show at Shea’s Buffalo Theatre is something different — a full evening built around her own music, her own words, from the debut album she spent years waiting to make.

Who I Really Am arrived June 6, 2025 on Borderlight Entertainment: 13 tracks, 11 of them written by Goldsberry, covering love, heartbreak, creative independence, and self-discovery. The album blends soul, blues, pop, folk, and gospel, and she brings all of it to the stage. Her solo concerts fuse R&B, soul, gospel, jazz, and theatre classics; past shows have been billed as “a high-energy spiritual journey of pop, soul, and Broadway classics,” running up to two hours with her full band.
Hamilton fans won’t feel shortchanged. A reimagined guitar-led arrangement of “Satisfied,” featuring guitarist Rod Castro, made the album, and Broadway theatre classics surface alongside the originals live. The lead single “Staring” is a blues-influenced track built around passion and connection; “Don’t Want to Love You” is a ballad she co-wrote with Girls5eva co-star Sara Bareilles; and “Smiling” is an R&B-inflected goodbye anthem. On the project, Goldsberry was direct: “For years, I’ve poured my heart into bringing other people’s vision to life — on Broadway, in the studio, and on screen. But this moment is mine.”
The Buffalo stop lands at a genuinely busy stretch for her. She earned an Emmy nomination for her turn as Wickie Roy on Peacock’s Girls5eva, premiered a documentary at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival (Satisfied, an examination of her experiences navigating Hamilton, motherhood, and artistic growth), and has the world premiere of David Lindsay-Abaire’s The Balusters at Manhattan Theatre Club, directed by Kenny Leon, still ahead in 2026. This fall solo run is a four-date circuit: Erie on September 30, Buffalo on October 20, then Charleston and Detroit.
