Peaches has not released an album since Rub in 2015, and No Lube So Rude (her seventh record, out on Kill Rock Stars) is not calibrated for a graceful comeback. Promotional materials bill it as “louder, bolder, and ruder than ever,” and based on the singles, that is not an oversell. She brings the No Lube So Rude Tour to Electric City on Sunday, Sept. 27, for what Songkick notes is her first performance in Buffalo.
About the Show
The album arrives after more than a decade of silence on the studio front, and the singles do not suggest she spent that time softening. The lead track is “Not In Your Mouth None Of Your Business”; it was followed by “Hanging Titties” and “Fuck Your Face,” with collaborators including Boys Noize, Planningtorock, and I. JORDAN on the record. In a statement, Peaches framed the record’s intent plainly: “When the world is friction, lube isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity. It’s how you turn that friction into pleasure, into power, into pride. I want people to understand that they can still have a voice no matter who they are or what the world says about them.”
Her electropunk career runs well past the new material. Over 20 years in, she has worked as a musician, producer, director, and performance artist from Canada whose 2000 debut, The Teaches of Peaches, Rolling Stone called “surreally funny [and] nasty.” The New York Times has described her as a “genuine heroine.” That debut hit its 20-year mark in 2022. She is the kind of artist who gets anniversary runs, not farewell tours. Live, her sets draw from throughout her catalog alongside, per Songkick’s event description, “approximately ten thousand costume changes and lots of audience interaction.” As the closing night of a fall run that has covered the continent since Sept. 1, Buffalo gets the last show of the North American headlining leg.
