Pennywise has been running essentially the same play since Hermosa Beach, 1988: guitars at full volume, drums at maximum velocity, and a collective stance that punk is something you practice rather than display in a museum — a philosophy that has kept them actively touring long after most bands from their era retired or converted nostalgia into a more comfortable business. The Pennywise East Coast ’26 tour comes to Town Ballroom on September 26 with H2O and Murphy’s Law in support, and this particular bill makes a case for itself without requiring much additional context.
About the Show
The Buffalo date is the fourth stop on a 10-city fall run that opened September 22 in Detroit, following a Riot Fest appearance on September 20, and closes October 4 at Irving Plaza in New York City. The tour completes a full cycle of road work that has already taken the band through a spring West Coast run and European dates earlier in 2026. Pennywise formed in 1988 when four Hermosa Beach high school students with a shared interest in surfing and California hardcore decided to build their own version of it; they signed to Epitaph Records in 1990 and released their first full-length in 1991, gradually building a following through constant touring and appearances in skateboarding videos that put them in front of audiences that didn’t yet know they wanted punk. About Time, their 1995 album, broke them more broadly; it reached #96 on the Billboard 200, and years on the Vans Warped Tour, including its inaugural run, turned the band into a foundational reference point for a generation. By 2007 they had sold over three million records independently. The current lineup is Jim Lindberg on vocals, Fletcher Dragge on guitar, Randy Bradbury on bass, and Byron McMackin on drums. Their most recent studio album, Never Gonna Die, was released in 2018.
H2O and Murphy’s Law are on the bill for the Town Ballroom date specifically — both acts with their own substantial histories in American hardcore. The undercard is worth arriving early for.
