House Party puts the premise up front — the playlist is already decided: bloghouse, golden-era EDM, hip-hop singalongs, and the indie tracks you forgot you knew every word to until the first four bars hit. After Dark Presents brings the touring concept to Rochester and Montage Music Hall on Saturday, Oct. 24.
About the Show
The curated soundtrack spans a decade with strong opinions about how loud a party should get. Artists confirmed for the set include Skrillex, LMFAO, Swedish House Mafia, A$AP Rocky, Passion Pit, Rihanna, and MGMT, spanning everything from bloghouse peak hour to hip-hop singalong to the indie tracks that somehow fit both sides of the night. The event frames itself as “a love letter to the house parties of yesteryear, with the speakers cranked to 11, sticky floors, and absolutely no neighbors coming to shut it down.” Promotional copy for the touring concept sharpens it: “This isn’t nostalgia. This is muscle memory.”
This concept has been traveling well for a reason: the 2010s party playlist was genuinely eclectic by any era’s measure. Pop, EDM, hip-hop, and indie could all share the same room without anyone running separate events for separate crowds, and nobody at the time thought that was remarkable. Looking back, it kind of was.
The Upstate New York run covers two dates: Oct. 3 at The Song & Dance in Syracuse, followed by Oct. 24 in Rochester. Oct. 24 is also the second time House Party has booked Montage specifically; an earlier edition ran there in August. After Dark Presents, Upstate New York’s largest independent concert promoter, has been producing concerts since it was founded in Buffalo in 2001 and runs up to 250 events a year.
18-and-over; valid ID required at the door.
Venue & Logistics
Montage Music Hall is in Rochester’s East End entertainment district and has been running shows since 2008. The room’s open floor layout with an elevated stage puts you in the crowd rather than at a polite remove, which is the right setup for a party format where the room itself is the point. Doors open at 9 p.m., music at 9:30.
Tickets
Tickets are $16.89–$22.76. On sale since Sept. 22; digital tickets are emailed two days before the show. All sales are final — refunds only if the event is cancelled or postponed. Buy tickets
