Gimme Gimme Disco at Empire Underground | October 2, 2026

By Eli Thorne · September 6, 2026

Gimme Gimme Disco doesn’t dress itself up as something it isn’t. The tagline is “THE Disco Dance Party Inspired By ABBA,” and that is exactly what shows up Friday, Oct. 2 at Empire Underground: a DJ-driven night of ABBA hits and 70s-80s disco classics in a basement on North Pearl Street, starting at 8:30 p.m. The collective has played this room before, and Albany keeps bringing it back.

About the Show

Gimme Gimme Disco is a DJ collective and touring dance event created by Emo Night Brooklyn, LLC, operating under the Burwoodland banner. Burwoodland started with a single brand about a decade ago and has since expanded to run more than 1,100 shows per year across 60 cities in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. — a scale Variety recognized in 2025 as part of a “thriving and affordable” DJ-event circuit that draws crowds who dress up and bring their friends. The largest Gimme Gimme Disco installment on record brought 4,000 people to Pier 17 in New York City.

Albany gets the basement version. The format doesn’t scale down with the room: all the ABBA hits, plus the broader 70s and 80s catalog (Bee Gees, Donna Summer, Cher), across roughly two and a half hours of DJ sets. The show carries an 18+ age restriction. Disco attire is strongly encouraged, and the promotional copy makes no secret of the ask: “Calling all Dancing Queens.” Group bookings are part of the mix. The collective explicitly accommodates birthday parties and bachelorette parties, which says something about the kind of night this actually is. Doors open one hour before the 8:30 p.m. start.

Empire Live’s social media said it directly: “Gimme Gimme Disco returns to the underground.” This is a returning engagement, not a first booking. Albany has seen this before and responded well enough to earn another date on the calendar.

Venue & Logistics

Empire Underground is the basement stage at Empire Live, 93 North Pearl Street in Downtown Albany. The complex opened in fall 2021. The venue describes the underground room as an intimate experience between performers and audience — which is a different proposition than the main floor upstairs, and for a two-and-a-half-hour dance party, probably the better room. The show is on the Capital Region calendar.
