Chase Matthew spent his early years in Sevierville, Tennessee fixing cars while writing songs from what he knew: real places, real people, the kinds of details you can only get from having lived among them. When “County Line” broke through in 2021 — a debut single on a small indie label that climbed to #29 on the Hot Country Songs chart — it was because the writing was plainly itself. Matthew’s catalog has since crossed a billion streams on that foundation. On Wednesday, October 28, he brings it to the UB Center for the Arts Mainstage in Buffalo for an acoustic set that will ask every song to carry a room with nothing beneath it but voice and instrument.
About the Show
The occasion is the 20th annual WYRK Stars with Guitars Fall Acoustic Show, presented by Country 106.5 WYRK. Matthew performs alongside Ian Munsick, Ashley Cooke, and Greylan James in a format WYRK describes as “up close, stripped down and acoustic, in an intimate setting built for live music.” The series has earned a track record worth noting: Taylor Swift performed at an early edition at age 15, and the roster since has included Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Morgan Wallen, and Brothers Osborne.
The four artists each bring something distinct. Munsick grew up on a working ranch in Sheridan, Wyoming, started playing guitar at ten with his family band, and has built a Western pop catalog across four albums; the most recent, The Mountain Goat, is self-produced and arrived this year. Cooke broke through with the Gold-certified “Never Til Now” and scored her first number one with “your place”; she won the 2024 CMT Award for Breakthrough Female Video of the Year and released a more personal, self-titled sophomore album in 2026. James came to the artist’s life through the writing room: a Knoxville songwriter who heeded advice Kenny Chesney gave him at a bluegrass show when James was in sixth grade, he built a major-league career before stepping in front of the mic. His credits include “Happy Does” (a Chesney #2 hit in 2021), Jordan Davis’s 2023 number one “Next Thing You Know” (ACM Song of the Year), and the title track of Chesney’s 2024 album Born. His own single “Water at a Wedding” has been climbing country radio, and he is set to open for Chesney at Highmark Stadium. Matthew signed with Warner Bros. after “County Line” and has since released the double album Come Get Your Memory and 2025’s Chase, featuring the Gold single “Darlin’” and a duet with Lauren Alaina. He recently sold out Buffalo’s Town Ballroom.
