Fervence plays Photo City Music Hall on Wednesday, October 28, just twelve days after Constructs, their debut on Metal Blade Records, drops. That’s a tight window: the band is still in first-listen territory with their own album, and the Rochester crowd will be too.
About the Show
The five-piece started in Reno, Nevada in 2019 as guitarist Trent Odneal’s solo project. Vocalist Stevie B. came on board in 2022 after approaching Odneal while her previous band was dissolving, and the current lineup (Odneal and Austin Bentley on guitars, Jon Daniels on bass, Chris Tufino on drums) fell into place around her. From there, the band spent a few years touring the West Coast alongside Otep, Left To Suffer, and Gideon, and released a 2024 EP, Realm//One, that earned a 9/10 and praise for “breaking so many rules in metal.” Metal Blade Records came calling in 2025.
Constructs, the eleven-track debut produced by Odneal and Bentley and mixed and mastered by Zack Ohren, is where everything they’ve built lands. The band describes their sound as “an ethereal blend of harsh and lush,” drawing from Deftones, Architects, and Silent Planet, moving between atmospheric melody and crushing heaviness. Odneal frames the record as “a refinement of our ability to convey some of these thoughts in a more generally relatable way.” Lead single “Zenith” gets at what he means: the track deals with “being a prisoner in your own body,” drawn from the experience of prolonged health struggles. Stevie B. put it plainly: “Dealing with health challenges in your own life, seeing people you love struggle, and just feeling like there is no way out and nothing will ever get better.” That weight tends to hit differently in a close room.
Houston metalcore act Enthronement opens the Rochester date. Their music builds around themes of empowerment, transformation, witchcraft, and inner strength; tracks include “Crows,” “Demiurge,” and “Siren.” This is the eleventh date on a thirteen-stop Constructs Tour running through October and November.
