Palisade plays rock built around classic instincts: dual guitars, layered keys, and arrangements that know when to pull back. The Rochester four-piece brings that sound to Photo City Music Hall on Wednesday, September 30, for a night that also gives you two support acts covering very different musical territory.
About the Show
The band behind the Palisade name is a Rochester lineup with roots going back to at least 2016. Alex Goettel handles bass and vocals, Cameron Seib leads on guitar, Graham Wolfe covers keys and guitar, and Matt Goettel anchors the drums. Earlier press coverage of the group drew comparisons to Tom Petty, Wilco, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and Uncle Tupelo, placing them in the tradition of songwriters who build melodies that hold up and arrangements that don’t waste a note. The event billing describes Palisade as “a rock band built on dynamic musicianship, layered instrumentation, and a sound that blends driving guitar work with melodic depth,” with emotionally driven arrangements grounded in classic rock influences. With dual guitars and keys in the room, the live configuration is built to deliver on the promise of layered arrangements — every instrument has a lane, and the rhythm section is there to hold it all together.
Support runs from a different direction. Watch Your Step is a country ensemble from Buffalo, active across Western and Central New York on their “Road to the Rodeo ’26 Tour.” They kicked things off at Buffalo Iron Works in June and have been playing ticketed shows across the region since. The band performs both originals and covers, ranging from traditional bluegrass to a more modern country sound, and their recent single “Road to the Rodeo” is on major streaming platforms. Wajah rounds out the bill, a local act with minimal web presence, which at a room like Photo City often means you’re catching someone early in their story.
