Deep Purple and Kansas on the same stage in Salamanca is the kind of bill that makes you stop scrolling and start buying tickets. Two bands that helped define what classic rock sounds like — and both still touring at full strength. August 22 at the Seneca Allegany Events Center is worth the trip.
About Deep Purple
Deep Purple has been doing this since 1968, and the word that keeps coming up in their catalog is fusion — hard rock shot through with classical elements in a combination that felt radical then and still feels singular now. The current lineup is Ian Gillan on vocals, Roger Glover on bass, Ian Paice on drums, Don Airey on keyboards, and Simon McBride on guitar. These are not musicians phoning it in. In August 2025, the band released a newly remixed version of one of rock’s greatest live albums, and the 2026 worldwide tour — North American dates running August through December — has been a genuine event.
About Kansas
Kansas formed in 1973 out of the American heartland and spent the next several decades building a catalog that holds up. Their full story is in the DVD Miracles Out of Nowhere, which is worth your time if you want to understand why this band still matters. Eric Holmquist has been handling live drumming duties since March 2024, stepping in for co-founder Phil Ehart after a health setback. Ehart published his memoir I AM PHIL in January 2026. Kansas is also co-headlining separate summer 2026 dates — that is two major booking commitments in one year, which tells you exactly where the band is right now.
