Hunter Flynn at Buffalo Iron Works | November 3, 2026

By Meg Andersen · August 18, 2026

Hunter Flynn’s music career started with a near-death experience on I-75. In the summer of 2021, he flipped his ’99 4Runner three times across all three lanes of traffic. He survived, quit his insurance job, moved into his grandmother’s basement, and started writing songs. By February 2022, he was playing open mics across Kentucky. By May 2026, he had signed with Big Machine Records. Now he is on the road with his Back To My Roots Tour, and Buffalo Iron Works gets the November 3 stop.

About the Show

Flynn is 28, from Pulaski County, Kentucky, where he attended Eastern Kentucky University on a full academic scholarship studying biomedical sciences before the 2021 accident redirected everything. He supported himself through commissioned charcoal portraits while he taught himself to write and perform, a practice he still integrates into his releases through recurring motifs like the Appalachian astronaut. He calls his music “Appalachian Soul”: country, folk, gospel, and southern rock rooted in the kind of storytelling that Appalachia produces and the rest of the country keeps discovering.

The Kentucky Music Hall of Fame named him their 2025 Artist in Residence, citing “soul-shattering vocal ability and veracious songwriting.” His May 2026 single “Wasted Day” — his first release for Big Machine Records — was produced by David Ferguson, known for work with John Prine, Sturgill Simpson, and Tyler Childers, and features Sierra Hull on mandolin, Russ Pahl on pedal steel, and Stuart Duncan on fiddle. Flynn wrote it entirely on his own. A full debut album is expected later in 2026, alongside new single “You, Not Me,” released August 21.

The Back To My Roots Tour runs through December, with more than 40 dates spanning the Northeast, Midwest, South, and West Coast, including a slot at AMERICANAFEST in Nashville and an opening date supporting The Avett Brothers and Drive By Truckers. The Buffalo stop falls in the middle of an early-November run through the Great Lakes region.
