Keller Williams at Middle Ages Beer Hall | October 3, 2026

By Nate Calloway · August 24, 2026

Keller Williams starts with a single guitar phrase. He loops it, adds a bass line, layers in rhythm, then a melodic idea, until a song exists that didn’t thirty seconds ago, built by one person standing on a stage with no band anywhere near him. That’s what he calls acoustic dance music, and that’s what he’ll bring to Middle Ages Music Hall in Syracuse on Saturday, October 3.

About the Show

Williams came up the hard way: through the late 1990s he lived in campgrounds, truck stops, and cheap motels, playing sometimes seven gigs a week across the country, honing a technique that had no name yet. What he was developing was live phrase sampling or looping, building compositions from scratch in real time with acoustic guitar, bass, guitar synthesizer, and drum samples, nothing prerecorded. He’d found his way into this approach partly from necessity and partly from the guitar work of Michael Hedges, the new-age acoustic player who showed what a single instrument could do in the hands of someone willing to push it.

The resulting genre (acoustic dance music, ADM, or in his own words “electro-hippie acoustic downtempo”) moves between folk, funk, bluegrass, and something electronic, sometimes within the same song. Williams draws on nearly two dozen studio albums when he builds setlists, but he often discards them mid-show for audience requests. He’s described that particular freedom as “so much fun it should be illegal and in some counties it is.”

Recent releases include Purps (October 2025) and Grateful Grass (Live), recorded at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Museum in Owensboro, Kentucky, and released in July 2026. The October 3 show is a solo performance in central New York, part of a fall 2026 run that brought Williams to Saranac Lake the previous night and carries through the Deep South and New England into late October.

Venue & Logistics

The Middle Ages Music Hall occupies the second floor of Middle Ages Brewing Company, the oldest brewery in Syracuse, over 30 years on Wilkinson Street. The hall sits above a taproom pouring up to 24 beers on draft. For a solo performer who needs the room to be actually present with him — to respond, to move when asked — it’s a fitting space. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Tickets

General admission is $30 (plus fees). The show is all ages; anyone under 18 requires a guardian. Presented by Visions FCU. Buy tickets
