Twenty-five years into their career, The Black Dahlia Murder can point to eight Billboard 200 charting albums (including 2011’s Ritual, which peaked at #31) and ten studio records as evidence of what sustained output in American extreme metal looks like. The band formed in Waterford, Michigan in 2001 and has been on Metal Blade Records since 2003. On October 29, they’re playing a 200-cap bar in downtown Syracuse: a standalone headlining date slotted between Wrath Across America co-headline tour stops in Worcester the night before and Quebec City the night after. The main tour plays rooms like the Palladium Times Square on October 24 and the Fillmore Silver Spring on October 25. This one plays East Jefferson Street.
About the Show
Servitude, released in September 2024 on Metal Blade Records, is the band’s tenth full-length and the first recorded with Brian Eschbach as lead vocalist. Eschbach spent the band’s first two decades as rhythm guitarist; he stepped into the frontman role following the May 2022 death of co-founder Trevor Strnad, who had been the band’s voice since the beginning. Eschbach described the aftermath of Strnad’s passing as a period of “profound grief and deep soul-searching” before the surviving members committed to continuing. Servitude is what emerged from that process, and critics responded with some of the warmer notices the band has received in years — praising “raging riffs and solid gold grooves” and calling them “one of melodeath’s greatest, most consistent bands.” Its 33 minutes move between doomy, atmospheric passages and blasting intensity. The current touring lineup features Eschbach on vocals, Ryan Knight and Wes Hauch on lead guitars (Hauch, previously associated with Periphery and The Faceless, joined in early 2025 after Brandon Ellis departed in February of that year), Max Lavelle on bass, and Alan Cassidy on drums. The band has been on the road throughout 2026; a spring headlining run gave way to the Wrath Across America fall campaign with Arch Enemy, and the Syracuse date falls outside that co-headline routing as a standalone show. The Song & Dance is at 115 E. Jefferson Street in downtown Syracuse, part of the central New York live music circuit. The co-headline tour is playing theaters and ballrooms; this show fits in a bar. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Admission is 16+ with ID; anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
